This is a sequence that Gordon took of me climbing an unnamed route up a whale shaped boulder in the Wonderland of Rocks area. It was a very short, unique climb with one big challenge. The boulder was totally blank above the eye hole.
The only way I could figure to climb it was to stick my leg through the hole. The moment I got my leg in the hole, I realized I was in an interesting predicament. The rock at Joshua Tree is very course and sharp. It seemed especially so on the bare skin of my thigh.
Later that day, as I was cleaning the torn flesh
that was my inner thigh, my friend Tom came up with a fairly accurate analogy
of the move I made to get myself free from the trap. He likened it to extracting
a leg from a toilet bowl without using your free leg. A toilet bowl with
teeth!
